Advanced Acting: The Director’s Toolkit Ages 13-18

Directing theater can feel overwhelming! Where do you start? What do you focus on? How do you bring the words on the page to life for the audience? In this class for experienced actors, students will learn the fundamentals of directing and then direct their own scene. Aspiring directors will discover how to be successful when selecting a script, casting, blocking, rehearsing, designing sets, and working with technical directors to enhance the vision. Class ends with a showcase for friends and family. 

NOTE: This class is excellent for aspiring student directors or those interested in serving as Junior Assistant Directors in SCCT productions. Students will gain the essential skills needed to successfully shape scenes and develop characters during show rehearsals.

Skills: script analysis, blocking, collaboration, leadership, design
Activities: choose, cast, block, rehearse, design a scene.

All refunds are processed directly through the Parks and Recreation department where you complete your registration. Before signing up, please review your city’s specific refund policy. In most cases, refunds are not issued after the first class, though policies may vary by city. No makeup classes are offered if you miss a session.

Registration is provided through San CarlosRedwood City and Belmont Parks and Recreation Departments. You may enroll as soon as a city opens their registration process.
